Oct. 18, 2021 —  Northern Kentucky University is hosting a virtual conference to help regional educators explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) resources, technology and cutting-edge techniques on Nov. 9.

The annual STEM Conference is a collaboration between NKU’s Center for Integrative Natural Science and Mathematics (CINSAM) and the University of Cincinnati’s (UC) College of Engineering and Applied Science. The widely popular astronomer from the Cincinnati Observatory, Dean Regas, is the keynote speaker. Regas also is the creator and co-host of the podcast Looking Up.

This year's theme, “Spotlight on STEM, STEAM, or STREAM, Exploring Today’s Mindset” features educators who have successfully kept STEM and arts instruction at the forefront despite the many instructional challenges confronted during the pandemic. The conference features four concurrent interactive workshops and a showcase composed of regional STEM education resources with virtual booths where attendees can visit, pick up information regarding the organization, attend meet-ups and bid on raffle items. Additionally, a special session on diversity, equity and inclusion features a group of expert panelists to field questions.

“The pandemic fundamentally changed the way educators operate," said Danielle Dores, CINSAM program manager. “STEM-related fields, such as technology and medicine, now have an intensified interest, and it's crucial to for educators to keep these topics at the forefront while also incorporating new and effective educational strategies that the pandemic brought to light.”
