Congratulations on your acceptance into the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program within the College of Health and Human Services. This is an exciting time as you begin to advance your role and responsibilities in providing care to all people in a variety of settings. We are honored and look forward to working with you as you continue to impact health care in a variety of settings; while, at the same time making contributions to our nursing profession.
As we face challenges in healthcare systems the leadership, knowledge and expertise of you as doctorally prepared nurses is critical for the care of individuals, families, groups, and society. Your time in the DNP program will be challenging yet extremely rewarding.

Summer & Fall 2024 Priority Registration
Due to the accelerated format of the DNP program, the faculty recommend that you take one 7 week course at a time.
Canvas is used for all School of Nursing courses. Navigation of Canvas will need to be mastered for successful course management. Here is a training to use Canvas as a student through NKU: https://inside.nku.edu/cite/technologyresources/Canvas_student.html It is at the discretion of the faculty member when the course opens in canvas, not Information Technology. Faculty are not required to open the course until the 1st day of class. If you do not see your course showing, it is most likely that the faculty has not opened it.
To log onto Canvas, visit nku.edu and enter your username and password. The courses for which you have registered should be listed. You can access the course(s) by clicking on the course title once the course has been made available by the instructor as noted above. Once you access the course(s), you will find an announcement with an introduction and directions for the course.
In addition to your registered classes, you will be required to self-enroll in DNP Information site in Canvas. Please go to https://nku.instructure.com/enroll/7FHYG4 This space provides information relevant to the DNP program. Of significant importance is the student handbook. The student is responsible to be familiar with the contents of the DNP Handbook. You will also find documents related to the practicum and scholarly project, scholarship and research information, and announcements of general interest to the DNP student on the DNP Information site. You should check for announcements daily on your course and the DNP information site as these can be time sensitive.
The School of Nursing advisors are dedicated to your academic success. Understanding your program of study and course sequencing are critical components of successful program progression and completion.

Appointments may be made prior to or after your initial enrollment. Likewise, an advising appointment may be made at any time throughout your program, as needed. We are happy to work with you!
All graduate students accepted into an online program will automatically be enrolled in the online orientation module, delivered via Canvas, upon registering for courses. The NKU Online Orientation Course is required prior to the DNP program courses.
Students should check the NKU Academic Calendar for questions related to Campus wide deadlines, i.e. last day to drop a class, holidays, last day to register, etc. The Academic calendar can be found in the "Quick Links" drop down menu on the upper right corner of any NKU webpage.

The books for courses are identified by the course, number, and section (i.e.DNP 800, section 001). All Doctor of Nursing Practice courses begin with the prefix DNP except for the Informatics course (MHI).
Rigor Statement: While we appreciate most students work full time and have family responsibilities the student must acknowledge that these responsibilities may impact successful completion of the program. We cannot alter academic standards/expectations of the program due to these responsibilities The rigor of the School of Nursing and successful progression requires one's full attention.
Academic Integrity Policy: Health Professions students are held to higher standards of integrity than the non-health professions student because of the unique and important relationship the health professions have with society. The student majoring in nursing is charged by society and guided by ethical principles and laws to safeguard the health of the public. In nursing, the standards are set by the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics. Violation of these standards include but are not limited to lying, cheating, plagiarism, fraud or other act(s) punishable by law or ethical misconduct. Disciplinary action will result at least in failure of the assignment up to and including dismissal from the program.
