PASS Meeting Minutes 11.16.23
Call Meeting to Order: 5:45 PM

Virtual Attendees: Kara Wright, Sam Shelton, Avery Adams Introduction: All members present
introduced themselves.

Fall Semester Service Event:

• Kara and I went to Master Provisions, a local nonprofit that serves people in need locally and
  internationally, where we sorted and bagged clothes. This effort was estimated to help 400 people
  in Kentucky and beyond.
• Dr. Olberding also came, so it was nice to have an MPA faculty member show up.
  

Spring Semester Service Event:

NKU hosts a campus-wide MLK Day of Service. In order to participate, you have to individually
register. There will probably be a box that asks if you are part of a student organization. Make
sure you put “Public Administration Student Society” so that way we can all (hopefully be assigned
to the same group)

More information should be coming from the Office of Student Engagement within the next week. I
emailed to ask and they confirmed the event was happening, so now we just have to wait for
date/time/location.

Here is an EXAMPLE of how it went last year:

• 9:15am to 9:30am – Check-In in the Student Union Ballroom
• 9:45am – Welcome and program honoring Dr. King
• 10:30 am – Break into groups and travel to service locations
• 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. – Service projects

Meeting Schedule:

·       The outlook form that was distributed via email reflected that Thursdays before 6 pm would be the best meeting time.

·       Future meetings will begin at 5:45 pm.

·       Future meetings were tentatively scheduled for October 28th and November 16th

Fall Service Event:

“Service Saturday” at Northern Kentucky University with the Center for Student Engagement

·       October 28th

·       Tentatively 11AM-1PM

·       This is our October meeting

Outstanding Items:

At the November 16th meeting we will discuss what we would like our Spring Service Event to look like

Spring Event Options:

- FUEL NKU Collaboration

   Reach out to Nick Bliven (MPA ’22) to set up a day for our group to go help. Last I spoke with him, this would be more beneficial than a drive

-  Another “Keep Cincinnati Beautiful Clean-Up”

  There are more opportunities for the Keep Cincinnati Beautiful campaign for the Spring I could explore

-  Other Ideas?

• Hybrid and In-Person formats

• Guest Speakers from Community Shares will be present to share about their partner organizations, what this project could mean for them, etc.

Meeting Schedule: The outlook form that was distributed via email reflected that Tuesdays before 6 pm would be the best meeting time. Future meetings will begin at 5:30 pm. Future meetings were tentatively scheduled for October 11th and November 8th.

Fall Event: Discussed a collaboration with FUEL NKU to do a food drive through October. All items and proceeds will be donated to FUEL NKU. Avery will be meeting the FUEL NKU director to further discuss the possibility of this. Great American Clean Up “Keep Cincinnati Beautiful” events were proposed. Floor was opened, and no other ideas were brought forward.  

Fall Event Vote: “Keep Cincinnati Beautiful” date to be determined via Outlook Form. The form will close on 9/27/2022 at 7pm. Fall Event Form

Outstanding Items: Meet with FUEL NKU director to discuss a future food drive. Finalize future meeting dates. Outlook form to choose the best date and time for the fall event. Register for GACU event.
